Ageing

“Old age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you’ve got to start young.”  Theodore Roosevelt

This week’s conversation is about ageing and to be blatantly honest – I am rather feeling it this week.  I have got a lot on my plate and am feeling older – both in my body and the mind.

We all have issues from time to time, this is also compounded by some aches and pains and further challenged with a health flare up that I am getting on top off.  All these “little stones” are very hard to juggle at times and they weigh a lot, which is difficult to carry.  I am finding that I am not so calm, when so many things are worrying me.

It is so easy to get caught up in the negative part of life, however, we do need to remind ourselves from time to time – that it is okay to have a set back and this is not a permanent state.  I can rest up and reset – both the body and the mind.  Whilst I may have some aches and pains, I can work and stretch these out.  They are not permanent, nor do they stop me from getting on with life and living!

Practicing my self-care, doing my mindfulness and all the other things that keep me well and active, despite the difficulties.  Projects to take my mind off the ailments and keeping in touch with friends and family.  These are all the things that remind me that life is enjoyable.

I also plan small breaks away, to make the most of our time.  We have a few events that are also entered into our diaries, and these are always much loved and looked forward to.  Celebrating life’s achievements and milestones are also important and make beautiful memories.  These would not happen, unless we all grow older.

So, I am going to reframe the ageing process and look at all the milestones that my family are celebrating, along with enjoying this time.  Many people do not get to enjoy these, as the alternative to ageing is not one to fathom.
