Confidence 2025
“The meaning of things lies not in the things themselves, but in our attitudes to them.” Antoine De Saint-Exupery
This week’s conversation is around confidence, and this can wane for us all and is dependent upon many things.
I have had a two-week break from mosaics due to life’s events and returning this week has produced some great results for me. At Monday’s normal class of three and a half hours (including a cuppa) – I managed to complete two pieces of mosaic on the backing material. A lovely zebra fish and starfish. I had some spare time this morning and in two hours (including cuppa) – managed to complete another fish and two thirds of a starfish. These will be glued to the gazing ball during next week’s class.
Thinking to the success, made me realise that my confidence is up this week. Not only the way in which the fish is constructed, using strips of two colours but also the ease of the design. This assisted in finishing the fish in a timely manner, which also increased my confidence! Another great factor is the ambience within the group(s) and supportive atmosphere – another confidence booster.
Interestingly the Cambridge Dictionary states that confidence “is the quality of being certain of your abilities or of having trust in people, plans, or the future.” So, this resonates with two of my examples from my recent classes. I am not so sure of the future of the end product, and this will not be completed for some time due to the vastness of the area to be covered.
Added to this increase in confidence at mosaics, is the successful completion of a few projects. My latest project, the lady planter sits in the office, and I am very happy with how she turned out. She sits at my front door (however may be moved to the courtyard) and opposite her are the smaller balls made of precut, which are also a source of pride.
The above quote certainly resonates this week and in my mosaic journey recently.
