Growth 2025
“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” Warren Buffett
This week’s topic is growth and like plants, we can all stagnate or thrive.
As part of my social work professionalism (and mental health accreditation), I need to undertake thirty hours of continuing professional development each and every year. This ensures that I am current in a range of therapies and also ensures that this protects the clients that I work with.
We also need to maintain supervision for ourselves, a minimum of ten hours each financial year. I usually have 11 hours to allow for leave, both for myself and my supervisor.
I enjoy learning new things or taking the time to reflect on my own practice. Lifelong learning has been on my radar since I began university, over twenty years ago. Whether for work or pleasure.
You may recall prior to Christmas that I took a drawing class, I have been notified this week that the artist is ready to provide another lesson for us and in two weeks – I will once again get out my pencils and give it a go.
I have another project for my mosaic class and once again, the HUGE gazing ball will go on the backburner whilst I undertake a quicker (and more pleasant) item. The frame arrived today and is currently sitting at the office ready to go to mosaics next week.
Trying to extend my knowledge and keep my mind active is essential for my growth. Professionally, I have just finished a six-week program on a therapy and am currently in week two of an eight-week course for supervision. It is always beneficial to liaise with other like-minded people and learn from both the facilitator and others in the group.
Interestingly, I have been following our local chapter of U3A (university of the 3rd age) and have been noting all the groups that they run – they also agree that by using our brain – it maintains our vitality.
