Happiness

“I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them.”

John Stuart Mill

This week we are discussing happiness and what makes you happy.

For me, this is a choice – despite what is going on within and around me.  I am not saying that everything Is wonderful all the time.  But it is a view on how I choose to see the world.  A glass half full type of person and that can be difficult when things go a little south.

As many of you are aware, I have been working towards achieving a Graduate Certificate in Sand Tray Therapy and this has been going for some time.  I enrolled in the course over twelve months ago, however, did not start completing any modules until June that same year.  Part of the certificate was a five-day intensive to work in the sand tray with the facilitator and also practice as both the client and the therapist.  I completed this in September last year and since then I have been working both on the modules and in the logbook to get the 40 hours.

Well, last week I submitted the outstanding assessment and logbook and I have been marked as competed!

The past twelve months has been difficult at times, attempting to work – both in the business and completing the training.  I made sacrifices in both my business and personal time to ensure that the work got completed.  I stopped attending mosaics for a term or two to focus on what I needed to.  Other training was placed on hold as I wanted to finish what I had commenced.  I even rescheduled and blocked time out in my diary to enable me the time and space to study.

I have also been fortunate to relocate my clinic space and with the relocation, I have a dedicated sand therapy room.  I know when the relocation happened, this provided the opportunity for my personal growth and learning to consolidate.  The learning environment was beneficial on a number of levels.

So, one of the answers for me is that achieving my goals can make me happy.  The Graduate Certificate of Sand Tray Therapy is one of my goals for this year and I know that there are a few others being ticked off my list shortly as well as we prepare for the grand tour.
