Resilience ’26

The topic of conversation this week is resilience, and once again this is a timely subject after the day we had earlier in the week!

We live in a border town that crosses two states, we reside on one side of the river and work in the other side.  Our dogs attend work at the office and usually don’t venture outside, unless it is for the toilet break in the courtyard or the grassed area out the front on a lead.  Well, usually….

I took Daisy the greyhound to work on Monday and then left to do a home visit.  Daisy stayed at the other office until she spotted the open door and walked out.

Daisy has grown up on the tracks and doesn’t always respond well to yelling or people trying to catch her.  So, she ran, the ran some more.

I came back around 10.30 and noted the staff up the street and in the laneway, most unusual I thought. 

Husband was working from home, he came over this side of the river, and I placed a notice on the old Facebook and rang the council.  Yes, she is microchipped, but in the other state.

Many people also put some notices on Facebook, and the council also rang with sightings that were rang into them.  Daisy was successfully captured and held until my husband could get there.

Moral of the story – Daisy was wearing one of her “Hound Tee” clothing, so she was very brightly coloured (which assisted when she was on the road) and made her very visible when going walkabout.  She travelled a fair area and no doubt was very tired when she was located some two hours later.

She gave us humans a scare and then went home again, no doubt to sleep off the big adventure.

Daisy’s resilience is bouncing back; it may take us humans a little longer as we realised what may have happened to her out in the big world without one of us by her side.

Her feet may be a little sore for a while though.
