Rest is very important

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

John Lubbock

I love this quote as it a definite reminder that we need to switch off at times.  Yes, we need sleep BUT also need to rest up.  Sitting or lying down and just relaxing.

I love to take time away from home and work.  Many of you are aware that we have mini breaks, and this is how we turn off from the busyness of life.  We are in the fortunate position that we can take time off our schedules and spend the time away from both work and home.  It wasn’t so easy to do when our kids were young, both financially and time wise.

We have planned a long weekend at the end of April and have our big trip overseas to look forward to after this mini break.  We have also set our leave for August 2025 when a major event in our family is happening.  Thankfully, both our trips involve being on or near the water – as I find that this helps me relax.  If on the water, I need calm or river cruises and that is what is happening this year.  Next year, I will be walking on the beach or watching the waves from the shoreline.

I also like to rest up during my work time.  I am fortunate enough to have my rooms with views of the skyline from both office spaces and from the courtyard.  This allows me to view the skyline and cloud watch.  It is even more spectacular when the roof blinds are open – I found this out last week whilst waiting for the blind installers to complete both rooms.  I just need to learn how to operate this feature and we can open up the rooms in the winter months to get some sunshine in.

Looking out at the sky now, there is hardly a cloud in the sky.

How do you rest and recover?
