Using mindfulness
“Mindfulness is the kind of light that shows us the way. It is the living Buddha inside of each of us. Mindfulness gives birth to insight, awakening, compassion, and love.” Thich Nhat Hanh
This week we are exploring mindfulness and for me, this is a wonderful skill to learn as this tool can help us all daily. Whilst mindfulness is usual for a range of issues and conditions, it is especially important to assist in managing huge emotions.
As you all know, I relocated my private practice to a new space, and this has meant renovations to bring the space up to code. Prior to having leave, the grapevine in the walkway was removed due to being a hazard. I ordered a new shade sails and was told that the expected installation was due in late May whilst on leave. Returning home and noticing that the sails weren’t installed was a huge let down. Unfortunately, tradies are in high demand at the moment, and I felt unable to do anything more.
I have now been home for over a month and have been promised each and every week of the delivery of the shade sails. Happy to report that as of 4 pm today, they are finally installed, and I am very happy with the result.
The journey to my private space has (and continues) to take time. It has now been over six months since I relocated, the renovations are still ongoing, however, I still manage to turn up each day to make positive improvements to the space. Much of the work is completed and only a few jobs remain, with the main being the woodwork and windows protection.
Yes, the transition has been overwhelming at times. But utilising mindfulness skills, I have managed to continue working in this space -despite the difficulties that this has brought!
Ironically, the photo shoot of the space took place ten days ago! Life is strange at times!
Being mindful allowed me to not be reactive to the slowness of the work needed. Allowing myself to experience all the emotions and just be. Regardless of what was happening (or not) during the process.
