Warmth ’26
“Search for love, for it is the most important ingredient of life. Without it, your life will echo emptiness. With it, your life will vibrate with warmth and meaning. Even during any hardship, love will shine through.” Nikita Koloff
This week’s conversation is about warmth, and the above quote really highlights the meaning of the love that we can receive from our family and friends, both through celebrating the good times and the times that test us all.
The year 2020 was not good for the world as a whole and it was the year that tested our family when my husband and I both were told of recent diagnoses and treatment options.
Unfortunately, both were quite public, he had to wear a neck brace for a period and with my treatment, my hair fell out! Small things looking back now but quite confronting at the time. Whilst lock down was on, we both had employment which was listed as essential and able to be in the office.
Through this time, we had the support of family and friends, however this was at a distance due to control measures at the time. As these lightened, we were able to be more face to face.
This time was quite challenging, especially for me. I was the one who provided help to others and not on the receiving end! I think that this is especially true for many people who like to be the givers, not the receivers. Awkwardness can be a terrible thing to experience.
For now, we are both well and things are back to “normal” both in our home and work life. We have witnessed the marriages of both our own friends’ children and ours, their families expanding and celebration life’s achievements with them all.
The weather down south has lost its warmth this week and I am considering lighting the fire for the first time this year. Yes, we also have a dual system – but for me the wood fire provides another sense of warmth, the visual kind. Hoping that there is a supply of wood in the wood box on the veranda to assist this process.
I am going to head off in three weeks to celebrate the arrival of a grandchild and spend time with the Queensland crew. I know the weather will be kinder there and look forward to the time with family up there and spending time with all of those who live in the region and the little ones.
Hoping that you are finding warmth, despite the cooler weather.
