Living well

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”  Oscar Wilde

This week’s conversation is about “living well” and whilst I have been pondering on this for the past few days, I have realised that it is something that I have been working on for many years!

Whilst I have been managing the reality of a work-life balance, there are some areas of my life that are not as well managed as they should be.  I often discuss the importance of a good self-care plan with my clients and supervisees.

Whilst my plan is quite good overall, there are some aspects that are missing in physical wellbeing.  Yes, I eat regularly and have a broad range of the food groups.  I have sufficient rest and attend to my physical health with regular visits to health professionals.  My downfall is not having a sufficient exercise routine.  I can manage to get lots of walking in whilst on holidays, however, do not manage this well when in my normal environment.

The other week, I decided that I needed to rework my diary to manage my time and availability.  Whilst this has not happened as yet, firstly, I need to find an exercise program to match my needs and then arrange my diary/booking system around this.  Small steps are always a part of the change process.

On a positive though, I have looked at a new activity and have booked this in for the next few weeks.  I noticed a bonsai course that a local was providing and booked in for the 3-week sessions.  Last week, we had a demonstration and picked out the tree and pot that we will be working with.  The instructor described the art as a mindfulness activity, in which you can get lost for hours.  I can certainly see that and look forward to practicing this artform.  I can also see that like any form of art; it could become an addictive hobby!  Let’s see how I go and whether (or not) the art of bonsai grows on me!

I am wondering if you are currently “living well”, or like me – need to add something to your life to make it more balanced?
