Success
“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” Conrad Hilton
This week’s conversation is about success and there are many ways of looking at what success is and means for us all, what it looks like or how we measure it.
For me, success is when I have completed a task, and I can see the finished product. This can be either in my professional or private life. Whether it is completing a course, attaining accreditation or finalising a project at home.
Many of you are aware that I utilise mosaics as a form of self-care. The weekly group classes are something that I look forward to and we all work on different projects that appeal to us. I commenced a workshop in November 2023, in which we made a gazing ball mould. My large gazing ball has been waiting for me in the spare bedroom at home for a very long time. The size and scale of this project has me filled with apprehension and a little anxiety.
Because of this, I have undertaken other projects during this time. I have made some smaller balls for the office and garden as a form of distraction. I was then coerced to consider a design for the gazing ball and began cutting a fish and an octopus for the ball. Please note that the ball is currently in a pristine condition whilst waiting for its decoration.
I then decided to undertake another project and located a lovely bust to mosaic for the workspace. This week, I managed to complete gluing the mosaics and then grouted it on Tuesday. My plan is to plant this out over the weekend, to enable it to be displayed in my workspace. I am a little worried that it will be easy pickings outside, so am thinking of an inside display and plantings.
So, in terms of success, I have achieved a product. However, the procrastination around the extra-large gazing ball is still a work in progress and a bone of contention around the various mosaic members.
I am happy to report that many of those who attended the same workshop, have either finished or nearly completed their own gazing ball. I have celebrated their successes with them as we enjoyed their final product.
