Why?

“Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.”  Washington Irving

This week’s conversation is about “why”.  Why you do what you do, both professionally and personally.  What is your reason?

For me, that is an easy question.  I wish to help people to get to their reason.  Their reason to live the life the way they choose.   Whether facing a mental illness and wishing to live their best life, or finding a solution to their problem.  I like to walk alongside people and help them to find this, in their own way and time.  Assisting them explore the opportunities and possible outcomes.

People come to therapy and/or counselling for different reasons; however, the main issue is to find solutions that work for them.  Sometimes, we may be more of a coaching role, or it may even be the first time that they have spoken about their “issue” out aloud and this can assist in finding their own pace and solution.  It is always rewarding to see a client solve their issues and make peace with their world.

The same in my personal life, I find enjoyment in the tasks that I do.  Whether reading (both for pleasure and work), catching up with family and friends or trying to be a little creative.  It is about experimenting and trialling new activities.

I especially like mosaics and most weeks you will find me in my class as I attempt to complete whichever piece I am working on.  At the moment, I am working on the huge gazing ball, and this will continue to frustrate me for a long time.  I recall that my bust – Dawn took over nine months to complete, so I don’t expect to be finished for a very long time.  I am hopeful that some smaller projects will entice me away and to give my brain (and back) a break!

I have also booked in for a couple of classes, a painting class and another substrate weekend in September.  This may provide the smaller project that I am looking for and the opportunity to have a short break away from the ball.  I know that I certainly don’t need any encouragement, however, it will be a nice respite.  We are going to work with some modelling clay, and this will be another opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge.  I love to learn and explore new opportunities for growth and to get my hands dirty.

What is your why?
